Half Term – Three weeks to go.

Over the weekend we mainly just chilled out. I actually got quite a lot more done than I thought I would but really out of just wanting to do it rather than needing to get it done. I marked both the year 10 and year 8 assessments and organised myself for the coming week.

On Monday I really needed to get out of the house so Greg and I went for a spontaneous walk nearby and ended up having a lovely sandwich in a pub. It was really nice to spend time together and not worry about everything. I feel like I’m managing everything well at the moment.

I do keep feeling a bit ill but I know that’s just because I’m relaxing and ‘on holiday’ it happens every time – feeling woffy, sick and moments of exhaustion. I don’t normally nap during the day but I have been doing recently.

During Tuesday Greg was back at work so I took the opportunity to really get to grips with some things I needed to do. I went to town and took my contract items to be scanned. That all seemed to go fine. I cashed a cheque and went shopping. I got things that I’ve needed for a while and it was nice just to go on my own, spend as much time as I wanted in places without having to worry I’m inconveniencing others. I also got some marking done, the shopping was delivered and I did a whole load of ironing which was to be continued the following day.

Wednesday was a good day. I wasn’t sure what to do with myself and couldn’t really make a plan but anyway I managed to wash my car, dig a bed, do pleanty of assessment marking and catch the sun! It’s been a glorious day and hopefully tomorrow will be the same.

On Thursday my parents came to visit. I had a really good day. I got nice things in for lunch and made a shepherd’s pie for dinner. I was excited to show them how the garden’s progressing, the food we’re growing and my plans for it over the summer. I really wanted to sit out on our new garden furniture and to be able to offer them gin and tonics – like a real adult and we did. It was really nice. I also took them to our local garden centre and my mum and I had naughty cream teas. I had a lovely day.

Friday was a little rainier which was good as a) the garden needed it and b) I needed to sit inside and polish off my assessment marking which went fine. I also had a bash at getting through my campus pack and teachers’ standards evidence which went fine – just time consuming.

Over the weekend my brother was coming to visit which was nice and I hoped that sometime in during the weekend I’d be able to have a go at finishing off my to do list which only consisted of Campus Pack and PSHE admin. They were only type up jobs but they’re the kind of jobs that have been hanging around for ages and keep getting put on the back burner because they’re not that important but nevertheless they need to be done at some point over the next three weeks.

Now that my assignment will be done and handed in this weekend hopefully my weekends will be freeer so I might be able to get things done then.

In other news I got my supply teacher contract through so that’s all official and I should start work in four weeks!

I’m looking forward to going back to school tomorrow but I’m not looking forward to the get up time!

Finally! A proper post and half term.

Monday was a good day. I taught my lessons and all went well. There has been some problems with Thursday as there is year 11 intervention on which means my year 8s can’t do their assessments then so they will have to do them on Wednesday. But I think that’ll be ok.

Other than that I left early to go to uni for an external examiners forum that went well and everyone had good things to say about the course.

Tuesday was a hard day at work but I got lots done and organised once I got home (early) it’s been nice to sit out on the garden furniture and lesson plan in the sun and I’m excited to start my new schemes of work next term. It’ll be a fresh start for a couple of weeks before we finish.

Wednesday was spent putting the finishing touches to my lesson plan for my external examiner observed lesson and Thursday I had my external examiner’s visit. I spent the morning preparing and it went well. I got a 2+ and only missed out on a 1 by a hair’s breadth – I needed to demonstrate the learning that took place through ‘show what you know’ and getting pupils to read out their work. I’m kicking myself but there you are. Finally the rest of the day was spent recovering.

Friday was my light day as usual. It has been so hot over the last few days that I took my laptop on and sunglasses and sat outside with two of the other trainees doing my planning.

18664602_10154631515885959_647177567086892837_n

This is how to plan at work!

It was a really nice relaxing day and the year 9s and I read chapter 2 of ‘Lord of the Flies’ in the sweltering heat. I managed to get all my printing done for the first week back too which is a good feeling knowing all that’s done and in the evening Greg and I went out to the pub for steak and wine which was lovely.

If I’m honest, I don’t really feel like I’m gagging for it this time around. I think I feel so at home in the department – they’re so lovely and supportive that I don’t want to leave

Over the weekend I intend to have rest and down time, then next week I want to catch up on all the jobs I have to do such as:

  • Proofreading my assignment
  • Marking three classes worth of summative assessments
  • Campus pack
  • PSHE qualification
  • Sort my contract for next year
  • Wash my car
  • The large pile of Ironing that has been accumulating
  • Work out
  • Do some gardening

I’ll be sure to keep you updated.

In other news we have more crops – this time spring onions.

Apologies once more.

I’ve been a bad blogger but sometimes that’s the sacrifice I make for being a good teacher.

Since I no longer have to do ‘formal’ lesson plans I’ve had so much more time. I’ve practically got my weekends back but it has meant working quite late during the week. I’ve also been spending a lot of time on my assignment which I finally finished on Friday (just before I got an email saying the deadline had been extended by a fortnight) *facepalm* never mind at least it’s practically done now.

I’ve also been preparing for teaching my new schemes of work after half term and for my external examiner observation next Thursday. I now know what I’m going to do I just have that one final lesson to plan and that’s it for this week.

Perhaps I can finally catch up on some of the other admin I have to do like reading, emails, gardening, ironing, campus pack, PSHE work and forms for my new job – that’s all for during half term though and next week will be all about getting me to the point where I can do that effectively over the half term.

My brother is here this weekend which has been a nice surprise and since we got the garden furniture we’ve had another visitor …

We think (hope) he’s a stray.

In other news the garden is coming on well and I’ve had lots of homegrown radishes in my saladsIMG_20170512_163351_776

I don’t think there’s much else to inform you of. I hope I can get back into the swing of blogging next week.

Second week at PP2.

First week at PP2

On Monday I felt like I hit the ground running. I observed all my classes and even partially taught year 10 as there was a cover teacher in there.

On Tuesday I did the same and managed to speak to all my teachers about what I’ll be teaching after Easter until June half term. I feel like I now have a clear idea and have got a copy of all the staff resources. I just need to check out the schemes of work now and print them ready for full on planning over the Easter holidays. I also managed to get a big chunk of my planning assignment done so I’m onto the last part. That also has to be done over this weekend.

Wednesday was a fairly free day and hence really productive. During period 1 I was involved with department marking, moderating and input which was fun. It was nice to spend time with the department. I also managed my CMs class during period 2 while she sorted some things from the marking. The rest of the day I got a good chunk of an assignment done which I was pleased about. I was then hopeful that I might even finish it before the weekend leaving that free for planning my 6 lessons.

My first observation was also arranged with my CL&VT for Tuesday but all that’s to come.

Thursday was quite a busy day. I even taught the year 10s a bit while they were calm. It wasn’t as good as I’d hoped as the class teacher kind of launched me into them mid lesson but it went ok. I managed to get quite a bit of my assignment done – steady as she goes. I also had my second CM meeting which went well. We agreed it’s all about planning next week.

On Friday I was on a school trip for the majority of the day to Preston Sports arena. I hoped that I would get some work done however this turned out not to be the case. It was a very busy and hectic day and the kids were very excitable. If nothing else it taught me that I can manage behaviour.

The weekend will be spent finishing off my planning assignment and planning lessons for the coming week. I hope I also get chance to spend some time in the sun as the weather forecaste is very promising.

Half Term

Hi everyone and welcome to my week off (sorta).

On Monday I had a busy but productive day. I tidied my study and did lots of filing and admin to close down placement one and prepare for placement 2. I was pretty happy with how much I achieved even though I still had loads to do.

On Tuesday I found it really hard to focus and be motivated. I did some work on my re-submissions but really couldn’t be arsed. I did manage to catch up on all my academic reading though and in the afternoon (after an email helping to sort out my priorities) I got on with campus pack.

Wednesday started out fairly productively. I finished off campus pack which was a relief and made a start on resubmitting my assignments. I was happy with the progress I made and even got on to applying for a job before Greg got home. I was pleased that I’d had such a productive day after yesterday. It wasn’t as big a job as I’d predicted.

Thursday was a super stormy day! The noise of the wind and the rain was so bad that I couldn’t concentrate and only managed to cosy of with a good book for the majority of the morning. In the afternoon though I got a little bit of work done – probably not as much as I could have done but then my deadlines are a way away.

On Friday it was my Grandad’s funeral. Although a sad occasion it was nice to spend time with my family.

Over the weekend I spent more time with my family, took the dogs for a walk, did some gardening (spring is coming) and prepared myself for the next week of uni. Nothing too much to report, just a regular weekend but even that is nice to have for a change.

2 Weeks to go …

Hi Everyone.

Monday was an ok day I taught two lessons and felt fine about it. Then during training in the evening I found out my Grandad died. I had Tuesday off as I was feeling quite delicate but also got loads of work done because I wanted to keep busy but it was comforting to do it with a cup of tea close at hand and in my pjs.

On Wednesday I had a Drama observation first thing which was new for me as I hadn’t actually taught a full drama lesson yet but I was eager to give it a go. Turns out I did really well and it was nearly ‘Outstanding’ I will re-do this lesson next week and make the changes necessary. Hopefully it’ll be outstanding then.

On Thursday I had my three full lessons again and also pretty much finished both schemes of work I was doing – which means I have two weeks worth of lessons to fill. 6 for year 10 and 5 for year 8 but after a meeting with my CM I know what I’m doing and just need to plan them. I also applied for another job – finally.

On Friday I was, of course, at uni and we continued our session on ‘the best lesson I’ve taught so far’ and also some admin on meeting the teachers’ standards. At least I’ve started this but I need to complete it over half term and I also have to make a start on the end of practice form sometime over the next two weeks :/

Over the weekend I need to lesson plan, although I managed to plan 3.5 lesson on Friday leaving only 4 to do.

My formal observation will be next week on Thursday – wish me luck for that.

Half Term.

It’s finally half term and yet I don’t feel like there’s going to be any rest for the wicked. On Monday I spent all day just cracking on with my MTP. I have no idea how long this assignment has taken but I know that if I have to spend the same amount of time on every MTP I do that it will be simply unsustainable however, this is my second assignment and I’m putting in everything I can to it.

I did quite a lot and yet it’s not yet finished. I feel like if I can’t at least get a complete draft done by tomorrow I am going to panic. I have however, promised myself that I’m going to wash my car on Tuesday … There’s lots of other stuff I wanted to get done: a food shop, to call my dad, to make dinner and I still, as yet, haven’t done it … I didn’t have lunch till 3.30 because I’d been working none stop in an attempt to make some headway.

On Tuesday I continued to work on my MTP assignment. I’ve now completed a first draft which I feel really good about. Considering I only found out on Friday about parts of it I’ve now not only written 2000 words, to a good standard, in two day but I’m now also nearly 1000 words over the word count … I plan to cut that down during proof-reading towards the end of this week and next week.

Organised Chaos

During Wednesday I spent the day researching starters and plenaries for year 7 literacy. I also made time to wash my car. I didn’t do a very good job though because Greg had forgotten to take the hoover out for me and also it started raining. As Mr A.Mole would say “Just my luck!” Still, perhaps tomorrow I’ll get chance to finish it off and give it a polish.

Thursday I did all house jobs. I caught up on what felt like a month of ironing, finished washing my car, hoed the garden beds and that took up all of the day but I feel really good about it. My jobs list is diminishing slowly but I’ve only got three days left. I was thinking about having a day off tomorrow but I think I’m going to try and get all the jobs that I haven’t yet done yet done tomorrow and then aim to have the weekend completely free.

On Friday I got around to finding some starter and plenary ideas. I didn’t plan them too in depth because I want to see where they’ll fit in with my CM’s plans. Later I want to plan everything for Monday so I don’t have to do it later.

I’ve done everything I wanted to do this half term so I’m pretty pleased about that but I’m still so tired. I need to make it through till Christmas now and I’m really nervous.

On Monday it’ll be 43 days till I finish at my placement for Christmas and then 49 until I finish at the placement completely … I hope I can make it through.

I feel like I have so many morals and that the actual teaching will be fine but I’m struggling with the lack of time and the lack of organisation and transparency … I don’t have time to breathe. I get up at 6.15, leave at 7, arrive at school for 7.30 ish, start school at 8.30 … leave school at 4 (sometimes 5), arrive home at 4.45 (sometimes later) and finally stop for dinner at 7 … I’m in school for 9.5 hours and work for 11 … and I’ve only been on placement four weeks.

At least this assignment is virtually over but now I have to concentrate on planning activities day to day. The next step is planning the first few weeks of lessons for after Christmas and then working together a MTP for all classes after Christmas … Wish me luck!

This weekend Greg and I went to Speke hall and had some quality time together. I’ve enjoyed really resting up and getting myself together for the next 6 weeks. I hope it’s enough.
